Dear Future Silulo Student
Firstly, I am a Unitra social science graduate and you must be wondering why did I enrol with Silulo Ulutho Technologies to study the End User Computer Course. The fact of the matter is not all graduates know how to use a computer. In varsity during my period we never had a computer course as a module in my degree, so I struggled to type assignments and to do research nevertheless I graduated. After graduation I did what was expected of me, moved to Cape Town to search for a job as a social worker, my family was happy to see me live as they knew that ubhuti uyosebenza.
To my surprise, I got in Cape Town and spent most of my days at a Silulo internet café in Phillipi, typing my cv, looking for jobs online and ignoring most phone calls from my sisters who were asking for money thinking ndiyaphange kuba ndise Kapa. Apparently, I was aiming too high in my job applications as they proved to be fruitless then I decided to apply for a security officer job and luckily I got the post. Tjoo being a security officer is hard, try to think of sleeping with your boots on and sleeping with your boots on literally. My job was to patrol around the beach at night, sometimes I would ask myself who would steal sea water and the beautiful scenery. The answer to that question made me quit my job as it was not fulfilling and I was a earning a penny.
I took a step back and looked at my CV and there was something missing, a computer qualification. This was a wake up call so I shopped around for colleges that I can enrol with and Silulo Ilutho Technologies was the best choice. It was a stone throw away from my house, had part time classes, tuition was quite affordable compared to other institutions, the payment terms were reasonable as I could pay the tuition in instalments.
When I joined Silulo Ulutho Technollogies I was an active job seeker hence I decided to register for the Saturday class so I can attend job interviews during the week. My family was totally against this as this would mean that I was forfeiting my duties as a man to support my family, that there will be no more income from me. I enrolled for the End User Computer course, which was a 6 months course taught by one of the most inspiring people in my life uSis Xoli. She was patient with the students as some of them have never seen a computer before and had difficulties moving the mouse. The modules were Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Internet and Email.
After graduating this course helped me tremendously during my job applications as I was getting good responses from reputable companies unlike before. I applied for a job at the City of Cape Town as a clerk, they phoned me back for an interview. I got there in my best suit only to be shown a computer and to complete an assessment on my computer skills. Because I had the computer course qualification from Silulo I passed with flying colours and got the job.
Now I can testify that quitting my job as a security guard to join Silulo Ulutho Technologies to study the End User Computer Course was one of the best decisions I made ebomini bam. I have a job that is fulfilling, affords me the luxury to support myself and family financially. I would like to also thank sis Xoli from the Phillipi Village branch for being patient with me in class.
Thank you Silulo.
